Layton Pike is Vice-President, International at RMIT University, which is Australia's largest dual sector University. He leads RMIT’s international portfolio, with a strategic focus on partnerships and impact across the Asia Pacific. Since joining RMIT in 2019, Mr. Pike has held senior leadership roles including Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor International & Engagement, Executive Director, International Chief Global Adviser; and Director, Global Strategy.
In 2022, he co-founded the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute, the country’s first policy institute dedicated to advancing the Australia–Vietnam relationship. Prior to RMIT, Mr. Pike was a senior officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He served as Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Vietnam (2014–2017), playing a key role in establishing the bilateral strategic partnership and leading APEC Leaders Week in Da Nang. He also held senior diplomatic roles in the Philippines and Canberra, and was Chief of Staff to the Attorney-General (2008–2011).
Mr. Pike holds degrees in Law and Commerce, is admitted to practice in the ACT Supreme Court, and serves on advisory boards at the University of Melbourne, the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute and Victoria’s International Education Advisory Council. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
