Professor Zlatko Skrbis became the fourth Vice-Chancellor and President of Australian Catholic University in January 2021.
He holds a PhD in sociology from Flinders University and undergraduate degrees in sociology and philosophy from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. As a scholar, he has made significant contributions in the areas of migration, nationalism, social theory, and life-course studies.
Prior to his current position, Professor Skrbis held senior leadership roles at ACU, Monash University, and the University of Queensland. During this time, he developed a strong reputation for being future-focused and impact driven.
It is under his leadership, that ACU is implementing Vision 2033 – a 10-year strategic plan committed to enabling flourishing lives, fostering thriving communities, and forging an ethical future. It is his ambition to ensure that ACU is globally recognised as a leading Catholic university committed to improving the lives of others through excellence in education, research, and collaborative engagement.
In addition to his position as Vice-Chancellor and President of ACU, Professor Skrbis is President of the Strategic Alliance of Catholic Research Universities (SACRU), Vice President of the Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA) and a Board Member of Universities Australia.
